Texas standouts Kris Boyd, B.J. Foster involved in scary car crash

July 5, 2018, 12:35 p.m. ET
Kris Boyd of the Texas Longhorns tackles and dislodges the helmet of Jaylon Smith of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the fourth quarter at Notre Dame Stadium on Sep. 5.

Texas senior defensive back Kris Boyd, an All-Big 12 performer, and top-rated freshman defensive back B.J. Foster survived a major scare on Independence Day.

Boyd posted photos of a wrecked vehicle on Twitter after a car accident Wednesday. Both the front and back end of the car were dismantled.

"Our angels had (their) hands over us today," Boyd tweeted late Wednesday, tagging Foster's Twitter account with his. "Got rear ended and smashed! We’re doing a lot better. Thank you to those who reached out. Could’ve been gone but (we're) here."

Longhorns teammate Jamari Chisholm also tweeted: "Thank god my brothers made it out safe."

It's unclear if the teammates went completely unharmed or if there were any significant or minor injuries. The vehicle belonged to Foster but it was unclear who was driving. Messages made by USA TODAY Sports to Texas' athletic department for further detail were not immediately returned. An official police report was not immediately available on Thursday afternoon.
