Ranking top players in 2026 women's college basketball transfer portal
Mitchell NorthamThe transfer portal for women’s college basketball opened on Monday, April 6, the day after the national championship game.
This is a change from last season, when the portal opened for 30 days after the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The transfer window is also shorter this year, open for 15 days.
As some coaches predicted, moving and shortening the window didn't stop players from announcing their intentions to enter the portal, nor stop their agents from communicating with teams.
“I don't know that it changes things too much. I guess it is later than it was before, and you won't have people playing during the time of it, but, you know, it's not like the communication is starting then,” Duke coach Kara Lawson told USA TODAY Sports in January. “It's happening all year, and that's the unfortunate part of the environment we're in right now. That's how some people already know where they're going on the first day of the portal.”
Last season saw several stars of women’s basketball transfer. Olivia Miles went from Notre Dame to TCU, MiLaysia Fulwiley from South Carolina to LSU, Ta’Niya Latson from South Carolina to Florida State and Cotie McMahon from Ohio State to Ole Miss.
With the Women’s NCAA Tournament over, dozens of high-profile players have announced their intentions transfer.
