Ellen J. HorrowIt will be a battle of No. 1 seeds when the UCLA Bruins take on the Texas Longhorns in one of two national semifinals in the Women’s NCAA Tournament on Friday, April 3.
UCLA and Texas are both back in the Final Four for the second consecutive year, and both teams are hoping to go at least one step further after the Bruins and Longhorns were bounced in the 2025 semifinals.
Texas (35-3) is seeking its first berth in the championship game since 1986 when the Longhorns went 34-0 en route to their lone national title. UCLA (35-1) will be trying to reach the NCAA women’s basketball title game for the first time in school history, though the Bruins won the 1978 AIAW championship in the pre-NCAA era for women.
Both teams feature a pair of national player of the year candidates and USA TODAY Sports All-Americans. Senior center Lauren Betts leads the Bruins with 17.2 points and 8.6 rebounds per game and a 57.9 field goal percentage. Junior forward Madison Booker paces the Longhorns with 19.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game and a 52.1 field goal percentage.
