Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young, facing 11 criminal charges, is undergoing unspecified treatment in a Los Angeles hospital. His father has said Young has a mental disorder.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The often-postponed criminal case against former NFL receiver Titus Young was delayed again Tuesday when it was announced in court that Young is undergoing unspecified treatment in a Los Angeles-area hospital.

"He's receiving treatment and is in a safe place," Young's attorney, Brian Hurwitz, said, after a brief court hearing, at which Young was ordered to appear for another pre-trial hearing June 5.

Hurwitz, who replaced Altus Hudson as Young's lawyer earlier this month, would not say why Young is in in the hospital or what sort of treatment he is receiving.

Young's father, Richard, has said in the past that Young has a mental disorder that required treatment.

Young faces 11 charges, including four counts of felony burglary, as a result of an alleged crime spree in Orange County (Calif.) nearly a year ago. He pled not guilty.

Hurwitz said he hopes to come to an agreement with the Orange County district attorney's office before the case goes to trial.

"That would be the goal," Hurwitz said.

Young, 24, starred at Boise State and showed promise as a speed receiver in two seasons with the Detroit Lions until behavioral issues resulted in his release.
