The Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills are certainly familiar with the difference an inch can make in the AFC divisional round. Both sides were tied after 60 minutes and both teams failed to capitalize on their first possession of overtime. Buffalo was also in a position to win it, though, until they weren't.
Josh Allen dropped back to loft one down the field for Brandin Cooks, in the hopes of getting the ball into field goal range
The veteran receiver was tangled with the Broncos' Ja'Quan McMillan, who emerged from the battle with the ball. It was officially ruled an interception for Allen, his second of the day and Buffalo's fifth turnover in total.
Replays showed that Cooks initially caught the ball, prompting many to wonder if replay would intervene and award the ball back to the Bills.

However, the referees ruled that Cooks didn't have possession to complete the process of the catch. He needed a third act to complete the process, meaning "surviving the ground" wasn't in play for the Bills' receiver.
Denver took that turnover and marched down the field for the game-winning field goal, sending the Broncos to the AFC championship game.
