Mike Evans, 49ers agree to terms in free agency: Contract details
Nick BrinkerhoffMike Evans was on the open market as a free agent for the first time in his career. Not only is he no longer free, but the cost of his services didn't come cheap either.
Evans has agreed to terms with the the San Francisco 49ers on a three-year deal worth up to $60.4 million in free agency, according to multiple reports.
The receiver's agent, Deryk Gilmore put a statement following the news:
"Mike Evans’ decision to leave Tampa was never about money," the statement reads. "The Buccaneers were extremely aggressive in their pursuit and presented a very strong offer, demonstrating how much they value him and everything he has meant to the franchise.
"In the end, this decision simply came down to Mike wanting a new challenge and a fresh opportunity while he still feels he has a great deal left to give the game."
The 32-year-old was considered the fifth-best receiver in free agency, but the fourth-best to hit the open market behind Alec Pierce, Rashid Shaheed and Jauan Jennings, according to USA TODAY Sports' Nate Davis. The best receiver in this year's free agency rankings, George Pickens, was franchise tagged by the Dallas Cowboys.
Evans spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he established himself as one of the best players in the NFL. He had been a model of consistency prior to 2025, where the injury bug proved to be a formidable foe.

The receiver missed nine games and dealt with various ailments including a concussion, hamstring and clavicle injuries.
Those injuries meant that Evans saw his streak of 1,000-yard receiving seasons come to an end after 11 years. He tied Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice for the most 1,000-yard receiving seasons in a row, but he will not set a new record.
Evans only managed 30 catches, 368 yards and three touchdowns in eight games as the Buccaneers dealt with countless injuries on offense in 2025.
Now he'll hope for a return to form as he continues to chase a second Super Bowl ring.

49ers WR depth chart
- Mike Evans
- Ricky Pearsall
- Demarcus Robinson
- Jordan Watkins
Evans slides in as the top receiver on the 49ers' depth chart, joining a group that also includes Pearsall and Robinson.
Brandon Aiyuk is a notable absence on the depth chart, though he is still under contract with the 49ers. San Francisco voided the guarantees in the receiver's contract, which will eventually bring his 49ers' career to a close.
There is still work to be done for Kyle Shanahan and Co., but Evans is certainly a good start for a team that has been in search of availability from its best players. While Evans dealt with plenty of injuries in 2025, his durability had been a strength for most of his career.
