Carolina Panthers trade QB Andy Dalton to Eagles for 2027 draft pick
Jacob CamenkerThe Philadelphia Eagles are trading for a veteran quarterback to back up Jalen Hurts.
The Eagles are acquiring Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers, according to multiple reports. The Panthers will send the Eagles a 2027 seventh-round pick to complete the deal.
Dalton, 38, was originally a second-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2011 NFL Draft. He quickly emerged as a starter in Cincinnati, compiling a 70-61-2 record across nine seasons and leading the Bengals to four consecutive playoff berths to open his career.

Since leaving the Bengals following the 2019 season, Dalton has bounced around to four different teams. He had one-year stops with the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints before finding a longer-term home with the Panthers.
Across three seasons in Carolina, Dalton started seven games. He completed 64.7% of his passes for 1,643 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions but posted just a 1-6 record.
Dalton will provide the Eagles an experienced backup, but he is not expected to overtake Tanner McKee – who is "firmly locked into" Philadelphia's No. 2 quarterback job, per NFL Media's Mike Garafolo – on the depth chart. Dalton will simply replace third-string quarterback Sam Howell, who signed with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency.
