Mario Williams signs two-year contract with Dolphins

Mario Williams is staying in the AFC East, where he'll get to play his former team twice a year.

The defensive end signed a two-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, the team announced Tuesday.

The base deal is for 2 years, $17 million. with the maximum value $20M with incentives, according to contract numbers obtained by USA TODAY. Willaims received a $4M signing bonus.

Williams was released by the Buffalo Bills last week. He had just five sacks last season in Rex Ryan's first year with the Bills.

In Miami, Williams joins a defensive unit that ranked tied for 25th with 31 sacks last year. The Dolphins recently restructured defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh's contract and placed the transition tag on defensive end Olivier Vernon. The team also is poised to land cornerback Byron Maxwell and linebacker Kiko Alonso via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.
