Harbaugh writes open letter to team: There are always consequences

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh implored his players to “consider your actions and choices” in an open letter to the team penned on Friday in the aftermath of cornerback Tray Walker's motorcycle accident. Walker died later on Friday from injuries stemming from the accident.

“There are always consequences,” Harbaugh wrote. “Choose who you allow to advise you. Consider the quality of the council (sic) you take. Put yourself in positions to succeed. Turn away from unnecessary and risky behavior. Take care of your physical wellbeing.”

Walker, 23, collided with an SUV while atop a dirt bike in North Miami on Thursday night.

Walker’s bike did not have a headlight and he was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, according to the Miami-Dade police.

“Do not be an enemy onto yourself,” Harbaugh wrote. “Turn away from trouble and harm. Walk away from foolish behavior. Ignore silly and unwise advice.”

Harbaugh asked for prayers for Walker at the time, although a good portion of the letter was aimed as a wake-up call for his players.

“I am asking you to consider what is at stake in your life,” Harbaugh wrote. “Consider what your thoughts, actions and choices mean to those around you. Live your life fully and with purpose. Have fun and share your happiness. Find Your Faith, and allow God to Grow Your Faith.”
