Ducks reach second round, end Oilers' playoff dominance: Highlights

The Anaheim Ducks first ended their seven-season playoff drought.

Then they ended the Edmonton Oilers' recent dominance of the Western Conference playoffs.

The Ducks beat the Oilers 5-2 on Thursday, April 30, to secure their first trip to the second round since 2017. Anaheim used its speed to create opportunities and with some fortunate bounces, it grabbed a 3-1 lead and built from there.

The Ducks not too long ago were among the worst teams in the league and they slowly added veterans to their young core. But the big difference this season was hiring three-time Stanley Cup winning coach Joel Quenneville.

After dispatching the Oilers, who had reached the Stanley Cup Final the past two seasons, the Ducks will face the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights-Utah Mammoth series. Vegas leads 3-2.
