The USA men’s hockey team defeated Slovakia, 6-2, on Friday, Feb. 20 to advance to the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Americans will play Canada, seeking their first gold medal since the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" team.

The USA defeated Slovakia hours after Canada defeated Finland, 3-2, in the first semifinal of the day at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.

The USA took a 2-0 lead in the final minute of the first period against Slovakia when Tage Thompson converted during a power play, angling the puck from the bottom of the left circle short-side at 19:19.

The U.S. took command in the second period, racing to a 5-0 lead behind two goals from Jack Hughes.

When does USA men's hockey play next?

The USA and Canada will meet Sunday, Feb. 22 (8 a.m. ET, NBC) to settle who gets gold and who gets silver.

Slovakia will face Finland in the bronze medal game on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2:40 p.m. ET.

Team USA defeated Sweden 3-2 in overtime in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye from Group Play.

Who has stood out for Team USA men's hockey at the Winter Olympics?

Quinn Hughes, who scored the overtime goal that sent USA to the semis, assisted on Thompson's goal against Slovakia to extend his point streak to five games.

Brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk like to make noise, like to talk, offering a counterbalance to the more quiet captain of the team, Auston Matthews. Brady had a goal and assist against Slovakia, while Matthew had an assist.
