Boston quadruples ticket price for train to 2026 World Cup at Foxborough
Seth VertelneyThe Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has announced that round-trip train tickets from Boston to Foxborough during the 2026 World Cup will be $80.
That price is quadruple the usual cost of $20, which the MBTA charges for New England Patriots games, New England Revolution games and other events at Gillette Stadium.
The MBTA told The Athletic last week that the increase in ticket prices is partially due to a $35 million investment in Foxboro Station, next to the stadium.
Despite concerns over high ticket prices, the MBTA said in a release that the train was an "affordable way to travel to and from matches."
"Compared to driving, parking, and event-day traffic delays, Commuter Rail provides a predictable and more affordable way to travel to and from matches," the MBTA said.
The MBTA added that all passengers, including children under 11, must have a ticket for the train.

Tickets for the special World Cup trains will go on sale starting Wednesday, April 8. Only ticket-holders for the matches will be able to purchase train tickets.
The trains will run express (no other stops) between South Station in downtown Boston and Foxboro Station. The journey is approximately 22 mies.
Boston will host seven World Cup games: five in the group stage (Haiti vs. Scotland, Iraq vs. Norway, Scotland vs. Morocco, England vs. Ghana and Norway vs. France), a round of 32 game, and a quarterfinal.
