The journey continues.

At least for 32 teams anyway. After years of anticipation, 16 teams from the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup field of 48 teams will see their run come to an end. It's a sign of just how much can change in two weeks of group stage action considering it wasn't long ago that all 48 entered with the hopes of being the last team standing.

Between viral videos of Europeans immersing themselves in American culture and stunning action on the field, there was something for everyone in the opening round.

The Scotland fans took over Fenway Park to create one of the most electric atmospheres in the iconic baseball stadium in years. Lionel Messi reminded everyone of his greatness with a hat trick in Argentina's first game. The United States men's national team made an entire country believe in its chances to stand alone atop the world stage in the world's game.

But the job isn't finished. In fact, it's only just beginning.

Here are the teams that will see their stories continue into the Round of 32.
