Updated World Cup Group D standings, bracket: Where do USA, Australia rank?
The full-throttle action of the 2026 World Cup is upon us and national teams are itching to take command of their group standings.
The United States men's national soccer team headlines Group D play. It's joined by Australia, Turkey and Paraguay.
Team USA is still looking for its first World Cup championship trophy. The nation's best year came in 1930, finishing in third place. For the 2026 World Cup, the U.S. fields a team that includes Tyler Adams, Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah, members of the 2022 USMNT World Cup roster.
Each of the Group D teams already have a match under their belts. Here's how the Group D standings are shaping up, as of June 19:

Here's how the Group D standings look after one match has been played (goal differential in parentheses:

Group D match results
The United States and Australia won their opening World Cup matches against Group D opponents Paraguay and Turkey, respectively.
The U.S. defeated Paraguay, 4-1, on June 12 behind a pair of goals from Folarin Balogun. Australia took down Turkey in a 2-0 upset victory on June 13.
In the second group of matches, USMNT beat Australia 2-0 on June 19 to clinch a spot in the knockout round.

The next Group D match is between the Paraguay and Turkey. The match has ramifications for the U.S., as a Paraguay win or match draw and USMNT wins Group D. A Turkey win and the standings have not been determined.
Paraguay and Turkey face off against each other at 11 p.m. ET (8 p.m. PT) on June 19. The match will be broadcast on FS1 with streaming available on Fubo TV.
