Sooners crowd carries boy through national anthem when he can't continue

Singing the national anthem became a team effort at Love’s Field in Oklahoma.

Fans packed the stands to watch the Oklahoma Sooners host the Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA softball regional final, but the loudest cheers came before the first pitch.

A young boy chosen to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” stalled part way through. Fortunately, the crowd stepped up to help him in a touching moment captured on camera by OU fan Jake Cribbs.

As the anthem ended, members of the OU softball team gathered around the boy, pulling him into a group hug while the crowd continued cheering him on.

Home fans then had plenty more to cheer as the Sooners went on to defeat Michigan 8-1, advancing to the Super Regionals.
