GoPro exec to temporarily lead SurveyMonkey

SAN FRANCISCO - GoPro executive Zander Lurie will take a temporary position as executive chairman of SurveyMonkey while the company searches for a replacement to CEO David Goldberg, who died a week ago.

Lurie, a friend of Goldberg's who sits on the SurveyMonkey board, will serve for three months while the board conducts the search. He will remain in his job as senior vice president of media at GoPro GPRO.

"I am a resource to SurveyMonkey during this transition," Lurie said in a written statement. "Dave was a strong leader who assembled an extraordinary team that is committed to fully realizing the company's mission to help people around the world make better decisions with data."

GoPro President Tony Bates said his company was "honored" to support SurveyMonkey during a difficult time.

"We consider this a small opportunity to demonstrate our respect for SurveyMonkey and Dave's legacy," Bates said in a statement.

The news was first reported by technology blog Re/code.

Goldberg, 47, a widely respected executive in Silicon Valley, was married to Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg. He died suddenly last week while vacationing in Mexico with his family.
