Lego is looking to bring your creations to life.

On Jan. 5, The Lego Group unveiled its new SMART Play bricks, tags, and mini figures at the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES 2026, in Las Vegas, which can react in real time as children and families play with them.

"With this exciting innovation, builders can bring their Lego creations to life in ways they’ve never imagined!" Lego said in a news release.

The first Lego SMART Play building sets, featuring "Star Wars," were also announced at CES and are expected to launch in March, in select markets, with preorders available starting next week.

Here's what to know about the new way to play with Legos:

What is Lego SMART Play?

At the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Lego unveiled its new SMART Play Bricks, tags and Minifigures.

Lego SMART Play uses a custom-made chip that is "smaller than a standard Lego stud" to make Lego bricks more interactive for children and families playing with them, according to Lego.

Video demonstrating how children can play with the new brick show Lego builds attached to a Lego SMART Brick, snore, make helicopter noises and more.

The bricks are paired with Lego SMART Tags and Lego SMART Minifigures to add sound effects to Lego creations as they're being played with.

"The launch of Lego SMART Play brings creativity, technology, and storytelling together to make building worlds and stories even more engaging, and all without a screen," said the senior vice president and head of the Creative Play Lab at the Lego Group, Tom Donaldson. "We truly believe we are setting a new standard for interactive, imaginative experiences and can’t wait to see this innovation in the hands of kids when we launch this year."

So how exactly will the Lego SMART Play Bricks work?

The Lego SMART bricks are like regular Lego bricks, except they have a chip inside that makes playing with Lego sets more interactive by responding to how they're played with and adding sound effects to the Lego sets and Minifigures.
