Fernando Cervantes Jr.Tens of thousands of shoppers are reporting widespread problems using Amazon’s website, according to reports from outage tracker Downdetector.
As of 3:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 5, reports of outages are hovering at around 20,000. Reports first peaked at around 2:30 p.m. at about 18,000 before decreasing slightly to 16,000, subsequently increasing to a second peak.
According to several users reporting problems on Downdetector, issues range from checkout and payment errors to incorrect and fluctuating prices.
In a statement to USA TODAY, Amazon apologized for the issues on Thursday afternoon.
"We're sorry that some customers may be experiencing issues while shopping. We appreciate customers’ patience as we work to resolve the issue," Amazon said.
The outage at Amazon comes only two days after thousands of Facebook users also reported outages on March 3, according to Downdetector. At one point, more than 10,000 users reported issues with the social media platform.
Multiple users reported seeing the same message on their Facebook accounts: "Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."
