'Pokémon Go' creators really want you to play safe

Hit mobile game Pokémon Go has generated a lot of buzz, not to mention warnings from law enforcement on playing safe. It seems the game's creators are listening.

Niantic rolled out an update to the viral phenomenon that includes several tweaks to make the game run more smoothly. But the most interesting addition are warnings popping every time you boot up the game.

Players will see different warnings each time, such as "Do not play Pokémon Go while driving," and "Do not enter dangerous areas while playing Pokémon Go."

Pokémon Go is an augmented reality game where players capture "pocket monsters" using a GPS map and their smartphone camera, giving the illusion they're snagging these creatures in the real world.

The game has been hugely popular since launching last month. It's currently the top free and grossing app on both Apple's App Store and Google Play. It topped 75 million downloads, says research firm SensorTower, while Apple confirmed the game set an App Store record for most opening-week downloads.

However, the game has prompted warnings from law enforcement officials, with several police departments reporting increases in trespassing and suspicious activity calls tied to players wandering their environment in search of Pokémon.
