Metronet is a popular fiber internet provider that offers or is preparing to offer service in 17 states. Fiber-optic internet is one of the most stable and high-speed connections. That's because fiber is a dedicated line, so it won't be impacted by network congestion like 5G internet. Fiber internet provides equal download and upload speeds, which means you'll get speedier video, file, and photo uploads compared with cable or 5G plans.

Metronet's fastest plan has download speeds of 5,000 Mbps (5 GB). The FCC requires download speeds of 100 Mbps to be considered broadband service. That means the fastest Metronet plan is 50 times faster than the FCC minimum broadband speed requirements.

Here's everything you need to know about Metronet internet plans, pricing and deals to help you decide if it's the right internet service provider (ISP) for you.

Which Metronet fiber internet plan should I get?

Before you select a Metronet home Wi-Fi plan, consider the following:

  • How do you use the internet? A good internet speed for gaming, streaming and videoconferencing starts at 100 Mbps. If you and others in your home do a lot of high-bandwidth activity, you may want to upgrade to a plan of 500 Mbps or higher.
  • How many devices are connected at the same time? Speeds of 100 to 500 Mbps cantypically accommodate 10 connected devices. Homes with more than 20 devices shouldconsider Metronet’s plan of 1 GB or faster.
  • How much does Metronet internet cost? Metronet plans start at $29.95 per month, but pricing varies by plan and location. Enter your address on Metronet’s website for plansand pricing in your area.

Metronet vs. other providers

Metronet’s high-speed internet with symmetrical upload and download speeds tops most other providers in speed and starting price. However, Metronet’s fees and price increases may have you paying more than with many of the best internet providers after just one year.

  • Metronet vs. AT&T Fiber: Both Metronet and AT&T Fiber offer fiber internet plans up to 5 GB. AT&T fiber is much more expensive, with the 5 GB plans starting at $245 a month compared to Metronet's starting prices of $109.95 a month.
  • Metronet vs. Frontier Fiber: Frontier Fiber offers faster speeds than Metronet, with plans going up to 7 GB. Frontier Fiber's prices aren't too different from Metronet, with the latter being slightly more expensive. Both Metronet and Frontier Fiber only offer service in 17 states.
  • Metronet vs. Xfinity: Xfinity only offers a few fiber plans, but they surpass Metronet's in speed, with download speeds of 6 GB. That said, Xfinity's 6 GB plans are around $100 more expensive per month than Metronet's 5 GB plan.
