Get rid of annoying pop-ups in Safari with this trick: Video tutorial
How many times have you tried to view a webpage, only to be barraged with pop-up windows, ads or email signup requests? If you’re anything like me, you get so frustrated that you close the window before reaching the content you were searching for.
These signups and banner ads aren’t typically blocked by standard pop-up blockers. But Apple has designed a tool to help eliminate these distractions when using the Safari browser.Watch this video to see how to hide ads and other distracting items in Safari.
Hide distracting items in Safari
Apple’s Distraction Control feature can make it easier and more enjoyable to navigate some webpages. The Safari tool lets you remove a section of the page with just a couple of taps. There’s even a satisfying dissolving animation as it disappears from your screen. The Hide Distracting Items feature works on login prompts, promotional pop-ups, sections of text and even some ads. It isn’t permanent, so some ads may reappear. It also won’t bypass a paywall. To hide content on your iPhone or computer browser, tap the Page Menu icon – that’s the sideways rectangle with two lines under it – on the left side of the navigation bar. Then, select Hide Distracting Content. As you move around the page on your computer, a border will appear around sections you can hide. On your iPhone, tap sections of the page to make the border appear. Tap Hide on the sections you want to remove, then tap Done or the check mark, depending on your device.Hidden content will remain hidden each time you revisit that webpage — unless you hid an ad, are using a private browsing window or clear your history. Items hidden on your phone’s browser won’t carry over to your iPad or Mac.
If you want to unhide items, look for the eye icon with a line through it near the Page Menu. Tap it, then select Show Hidden Items.
