See SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket soar across sunny Space Coast sky on May Day
Rick NealeWhat better way to celebrate National Space Day? A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket soared skyward in the afternoon sunshine Friday, May 1, on another Starlink satellite mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The May Day rocket lifted off at 2:06 p.m. from Launch Complex 40, then deployed a payload of 29 Starlink broadband satellites in low-Earth orbit.
In a rarity, the publicly released Eastern Range schedule does not feature a launch from the Cape until May 12. That's when another Falcon 9 will launch a Dragon spacecraft packed with supplies and equipment to the International Space Station on NASA's SpaceX CRS-34 mission.
Officials have yet to announce the launch window for this ISS resupply mission, which will take flight from Launch Complex 40 at the Space Force installation.
