See what's coming inside Disney’s new Monsters, Inc. land
Disney Imagineers are bringing the world of Monsters, Inc. to life with attractions, dining and original locations.
Eve ChenDisney’s first Monsters, Inc. land is starting to take shape at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
Signs of the former Muppets Courtyard were all but gone when USA TODAY was invited on a hard hat visit to the construction site in late May. All that’s left are the concrete and metal bones, which are being used to build a new cityscape: Monstropolis.
Disney Imagineers are working closely with Pixar to create real-life versions of familiar places from the Monsters, Inc. franchise, like Harryhausen’s restaurant, where guests can dine like Mike Wazowski and his girlfriend Celia Mae before Boo escaped, and chaos ensued.

Guests will also be able to visit the Monsters, Inc. factory, which will house Disney’s first suspended roller coaster at any of its parks.
When the land was first announced in 2024, then Disney Experiences Chairman, now Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro told USA TODAY, “And of course, we'll use all the latest technology, all the latest tricks, the most immersive environment you can imagine to create an experience that I think our fans are going to love.”

Disney said there will also be lots of places guests won’t recognize because only snippets of Monstropolis have ever been seen on screen. Imagineers are expanding the fictional world with new sights like the Glob Theater – a completely new attraction in the former Muppet*Vision 3D venue – and various storefronts.
Guests will be invited in as part of Monstropolis’ first H.U.M.A.N. Day, which stands for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice,” the Disney Parks Blog said on June 4. At this point in the timeline, following the events of the first film, monsters have learned that laughter is stronger than fear, but they still have a lot to learn from humans, and vice versa. A Department of Human Relations will be on hand to help.
More details are still to come, including when the land will open at Walt Disney World.
