Delta, Air Canada planes collide on taxiway at LAX
Natalie Neysa AlundFederal officials are investigating after a Delta Air Lines plane and Air Canada plane collided on a taxiway at Los Angeles International Airport on Oct. 6.
Delta Flight 7 was taxiing for departure when its left wingtip clipped the horizontal stabilizer of Air Canada Flight 785, Federal Aviation Administration Public Affairs Specialist Donnell Evans told USA TODAY.
Flight Aware data shows the Delta plane was bound for Japan and the Air Canada flight was landing at LAX from Toronto.
The incident took place about 10:30 a.m. PT, Evans said, and at the time of the collision, the Air Canada flight was being towed when it stopped short of its gate.
"We are aware of an incident involving a Delta Air Lines aircraft and an Air Canada aircraft on a taxiway at LAX, not a runway," LAX told USA TODAY in an email.
No injuries were reported, the airport said, adding flights there continued to operate normally.
"Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people, and we apologize to our customers for the experience and delay in their travels," Delta told USA TODAY.
Air Canada told USA TODAY its aircraft will be taken out of service for inspection and repairs.
LAX said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and will investigate the cause of the accident.
