Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship, the Carnival Breeze.

Cruise giant Carnival has scored some cool points with customers by loosening its restrictions on bring-your-own beverages.

The line has lifted a ban on passengers carrying sodas and other non-alcoholic drinks on board vessels after port calls as long as the beverages are in cans or cartons of 12 or fewer ounces. A ban on bottled beverages will remain in place.

Until now passengers only were allowed to carry non-alcoholic beverages onto ships at the start of a voyage.

A caveat: Passengers will be allowed to bring a maximum of 12 cans or cartons per person aboard a ship at a time.
