Plain White T's coming to Pittsburgh for 250th Independence Day show

Pittsburgh is poised to mark America's 250th anniversary with a night of free concerts featuring pop rock band Plain White T's and musicians from around the Steel City.

On July 4, the city will host the Pittsburgh 250th Independence Day Celebration, with most of the fun concentrated in Downtown and along the North Shore, according to the city's website. The event will feature musical guests, food, family-friendly activities, fireworks and more.

Musical guests will perform across multiple stages, showcasing talent from around the Steel City before Plain White T's, the evening's headliners, take to the main stage later in the night before the firework show.

Here's what to know about the performances.

Plain White T's to headline Pittsburgh 250th Independence Day Celebration

Pop rock band Plain White T's will headline Pittsburgh's 250th Independence Day Celebration, with the Chicago area-based quintet set to play a free show on the event's main stage at 8 p.m. on July 4.

Founded nearly three decades ago, the Plain White T's have garnered a number of accolades and nominations, including two Grammy nomination for their 2005 song "Hey There Delilah," according to Fearless Records. In 2018, the band was nominated for a Tony for their contributions to the music and lyrics of "SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical."

Ahead of Pittsburgh's July 4 celebration, Plain White T's are scheduled to play at UPMC Events Center in Moon Township on June 15. They'll return to Pennsylvania later in the summer for Celebrate Erie 2026 on Aug. 15.

Pittsburgh 250th Independence Day Celebration to showcase Steel City artists

Many of the artists performing at Pittsburgh's Independence Day Celebration call the Steel City home.

Pop artist Ben Orrvick, known by the stage name Kahone Concept, and pop punk band Eternal Boy are both based in Pittsburgh and are set to perform on the main stage ahead of Plain White T's.

Stages around the event will see Pittsburgh and Allegheny-area artists, including Cello Fury, Allegheny Brass Band, Louis Castle, M.E.L.T., Shari Richards, Nied's Hotel Band and Billy Price Band.

Richards will perform alongside guitarist Lenny Smith with the Lenny Smith Project. Smith, born in Alabama, has performed in Pittsburgh for more than three decades, according to his website.

Here's when you can expect musical guests to perform at Pittsburgh's 250th Independence Day Celebration:

BNY Main Stage at Point State Park

  • 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Kahone Concept
  • 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Eternal Boy
  • 8 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.: Plain White T's

Celebrate the USA Stage! near Fort Pitt Museum

  • 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Cello Fury
  • 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.: Allegheny Brass Band

Sargent Electric Solar Stage on Liberty Avenue

  • 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Louis Castle
  • 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: M.E.L.T.

PNC Great Lawn on the North Shore

  • 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.: Fireside Events DJ set

Grandview Park Bandstand at Grandview Park in Mount Washington

  • 4 p.m.: Shari Richards and the Lenny Smith Project
  • 6 p.m.: Nied's Hotel Band
  • 8 p.m.: Billy Price Band

Experience family fun, fireworks at Pittsburgh 250th Independence Day Celebration

In addition to music, Pittsburgh's Independence Day Celebration will feature family-friendly activities, a space with veterans wellness resources, food vendors and a marketplace, a hot air balloon, a Ferris wheel and more. Tickets to the Ferris wheel, which will be set up on the North Shore from July 1 through July 5, can be purchased on the city's website.

Fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:35 p.m. on July 4, with a drone performance to precede the fireworks. Six barges on the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela rivers will serve as launch points for the fireworks, as well as rooftops.

Celebrate Independence Day around Pittsburgh with America250PA, orchestra, choral concerts

Ahead of July 4 and through the holiday weekend, there will be several concerts celebrating Independence Day in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. These include:

  • June 27: America250PA Commonwealth Concert Pittsburgh stop featuring Nelly, Third Eye Blind and Frzy at Point State Park
  • July 2 through July 5: Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concerts at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, South Park, Arts Landing and Hartwood Acres
  • July 3: Sing 250 Choral Series concert with the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and the South Hills Chorale at the O'Riley Theater
  • July 4: Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and teh Guardians of Sound Hip Hop Orchestra featuring INEZ will perform on the Dollar Bank Stage and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust celebrates at the new Arts Landing with the orchestra and Chamber Music Pittsburgh
