Ever wondered what an 1800s cruise cabin looks like? You can book one.

Cruise guests sailing with HX Expeditions can travel back in time during their next voyage – sort of. The expedition cruise operator is marking its 130th anniversary with the launch of the 1896 Cabin, a special cabin aboard its MS Fridtjof Nansen ship.

The cabin evokes 19th century seafaring while incorporating "discreet modern comforts," HX said. Designed by AROS Marine, it features handcrafted wooden interiors; a single bed and bunk beds; and a custom scent inspired by aged timber and salt air.

The cabin is available for up to three guests per booking, for a maximum of one night per guest on each sailing.

The room is available as an upgrade for 100 euros per night for each guest (around $116) on select 2026 voyages. Half of all profits will go to the HX Foundation to support an "anniversary fundraising goal of £130,000 for conservation, science and heritage initiatives."

Travelers can reserve the cabin as an add-on to their booking prior to departure or during their sailing. The room will also be open for viewing during expeditions.
