Rob Reiner's son Nick arrested on murder charge for parents' death
Edward SegarraPolice have arrested Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, on a charge of murder following the death of the acclaimed Hollywood director and his wife, Michele Singer.
Nick Reiner, a 32-year-old screenwriter and the middle child of Rob Reiner and Singer, was taken into custody on Sunday, Dec. 14, and booked on Monday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records reviewed by USA TODAY. He is currently being held on no bail after his bail was initially set at $4 million.
Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell revealed Reiner had been "booked for murder" during a press conference on Monday. "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners, a tragic incident," McDonnell said.
In a follow-up statement Monday afternoon, LAPD said an initial investigation conducted by the agency's Robbery Homicide Division "determined that the Reiners were the victims of homicide," adding authorities' investigation revealed Nick Reiner was "responsible for their deaths."

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for filing consideration on Tuesday, Dec. 16, according to the LAPD.
The deaths of Rob Reiner and Singer are under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department after the couple were found dead in their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Authorities confirmed that "many family members" will be interviewed in the course of their work and that they were obtaining a search warrant to conduct a full crime scene investigation. They did not comment on the injuries sustained by Reiner and Singer.
Reiner has been the most forward-facing of the Reiner siblings. The writer has opened up extensively about his battles with drug addiction as well as homelessness, telling People in a 2016 interview that his struggles began as a teen.
He told the magazine he made his first visit to rehab at 15, and would return 17 times. His 2015 film "Being Charlie," which he cowrote, is loosely based on the experience. His dad directed the film.
