FBI releases new details on suspect in Nancy Guthrie alleged kidnapping

Feb. 12, 2026Updated Feb. 13, 2026, 8:14 a.m. ET

The FBI is sharing details about a person they now consider to be a suspect in Nancy Guthrie's alleged kidnapping.

In a social media post shared just after 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 12, FBI Phoenix confirmed the person seen in Guthrie's doorbell camera footage, which was shared with the public Feb. 10, is a suspect in the case and shared a physical description of the man.

"The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9”-5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter 'Ozark Trail Hiker Pack' backpack," the post read.

"We hope this updated description will help concentrate the public tips we are receiving. Since February 1, 2026, the FBI has collected over 13,000 tips from the public related to this case," the post continued.

The suspect's details were "confirmed after a forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division," per the agency.

Law enforcement had "uncovered these previously inaccessible new images" from video that was "recovered from residual data located in backend systems" of what appeared to be a Nest camera at Guthrie's front door, according to a watermark on the footage.

Suspect at Nancy Guthrie's door had a backpack, possible weapon

FBI Director Kash Patel previously described the person in the security footage as "an armed individual" who appeared to have "tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door the morning of her disappearance."

In two videos, the person wears a mask and gloves and looks to hold a flashlight in their mouth as they attempt to cover the camera with foliage. In another clip, the person walks up to the home, head down, wearing a dark zip-up jacket, light pants, a backpack, and what appears to be a weapon in a holster hanging around their waist.

Savannah Guthrie also shared the visuals on her Instagram account, writing: "We believe she is still alive. Bring her home."

Earlier on Feb. 12, the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed investigators recovered "several items of evidence, including gloves," which have been sent for DNA testing.

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show anchor Savannah Guthrie, has not been seen since Saturday, Jan. 31. She was first reported missing the following day, on Feb. 1. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has said they believe she was taken from her home outside of Tucson against her will.

Law enforcement has asked anyone with information to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov, the Pima County Sheriff's Department (520-351-4900) or 88-CRIME.
