For Rita Wilson, body positivity isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

The actress and country music singer, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, opened up about how the health battle impacted her body image in an interview with People magazine published Saturday, May 9.

Wilson explored the topic on her song "Whose Body is This," which is featured on her new album "Sound of a Woman." The track's lyrics tackle the conflicting feelings that someone can feel toward their physical appearance after undergoing a significant change, such as childbirth.

"This body of mine, it came out the other side / No matter how I tried, it taught me to survive," Wilson sings. "And I'm grateful for the broken bits / But the question is: Whose body is this?"

"These parts of your body that had been there for you in such a beautiful way were gone," Wilson, 69, told People of her cancer journey. "I'm very grateful that there are things nowadays in modern medicine like reconstruction and implants, because in my mom's generation, if you had breast cancer, that was it. There was nothing. You were left with sort of a shadow."

Wilson was 58 at the time of her cancer diagnosis. The "Sleepless in Seattle" star had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction to treat the disease.

"It was interesting to look at my body in that way and see it, understand what is missing, but also [see] what my body could do to keep me healing and healthy and have that appreciation," Wilson continued.

The singer also maintained a sense of humor about her body after her health struggles, poking fun at the cosmetic side of her breast reconstruction: "I like to say that I've finally gone Hollywood now, and I have some in place."

This isn't the first time Wilson has gotten candid on her cancer journey.

During an April 28 appearance at 92NY, Wilson told friend and interviewer Demi Moore about the emotional request she had for husband Tom Hanks if she didn't survive the medical ordeal, according to People magazine.

"I said to Tom, I'm like, 'OK, if something happens and I go first, I just have two requests,'" Wilson said, per the outlet. "And one is that you should be sad for a very, very long time."

As for the other request, Wilson said that she wanted her loved ones to throw a party in her honor after her death.

"I want it to be a celebration of life," Wilson said, per People. "I want it to be about people telling stories and joy and remembering me in that way. And I think people, a lot of people want that, you know? I think there's room for that."
