May 18, 2026, 3:59 p.m. ET

Angelina Jolie's daughter, Zahara Jolie, is officially graduating from college.

Jolie's middle child with ex-husband Brad Pitt graduated from Spelman College, which held its commencement on Sunday, May 17, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, according to social media video.

In the video, the 21-year-old walks across the stage in a black graduation cap and gown with a blue and white stole, as the announcer reads her name: Zahara Marley Jolie.

Zahara Jolie has dropped use of her father's last name in recent years, while her sister, Shiloh Jolie, has legally changed her last name from Jolie-Pitt to simply Jolie.

Zahara Jolie enrolled in the private historically Black college in Atlanta in 2022 and crossed the historically Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha in 2023.

Pitt, 62, and Jolie, 50, share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 19; and 17-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. The couple, who split in 2016, finalized their tumultuous divorce in 2024.

Angelina Jolie and her daughter Zahara Jolie, left, arrive for the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Jan. 5, 2025.

Angelina Jolie adopted Zahara Jolie as a baby in 2005 from Ethiopia and has discussed the importance of ensuring that her daughter still has a connection to her roots. The two went on a trip to Ethiopia in 2019 and met with Sahle-Work Zewde, the first woman president of Ethiopia to discuss ways to help girls continue their schooling.

Zahara Jolie has been involved with her mother's international and humanitarian advocacy even before attending college: The pair spoke with Congress about the Justice for All Reauthorization Act in 2022 as well as the Violence Against Women Act in 2021.

In remarks at the Pearls of Purpose Foundation Scholarship Mother Daughter Luncheon on April 26, Zahara spoke to the impact her mom has had on her life.

"She is the most selfless, loving and understanding woman that I get to call my mom," she said. "I think back to a quote I saw years ago that said, 'I am a strong woman because a strong woman raised me.' Thank you, mom."
