It may be 33 years in, but Barack and Michelle Obama know how to keep things fresh in their relationship.

The former first lady opened up about date nights with the former president on "Baby, This is Keke Palmer" Tuesday, May 19, telling Palmer that the pair love dinner and conversation.

"A perfect date night is dinner, out, usually a private room, so that we can actually just be here, and no one is walking up," she said, noting that the interruption can get awkward. "I mean, it's fine for people to walk up, but when you're on your date with your man, it's just sort of like, 'Oh, hey.'"

Michelle Obama added that the couple, who have been together for over 37 years, have to get creative with what they talk about.

Former first lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama look on before the start of the 75th NBA All-Star Game at Intuit Dome.

"So, private room when we actually have a lot of catching up to do. Because we live together, we've been married for 30-plus years. Sometimes there's nothing new. We're eating. It's like, 'What'd you do today?' 'Nothing,' you know?" she said. "Some days we're in the house together all day, and we know we're going to have dinner together and [it's] like, 'Well, don't talk to me, because we got to save it for dinner.'"

Obama said the former president doesn't go out as much as she does, so she usually takes on the role of scouting new restaurants when she's out with friends. "I'm usually the one discovering the new stuff, and I'm like, 'Ooo, he'll like this,'" she said.

Last year, rumors about the status of the couple's marriage resurfaced, especially after Michelle Obama sat out the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter and later the second inauguration of President Donald Trump. The pair eventually addressed the rumors, with Michelle Obama shutting them down with firm but sweet words about the former commander-in-chief.

"There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man. And we've had some really hard times," she said in a July episode of her and her brother Craig Robinson's "IMO" podcast. "We have had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to."

"OK, don't make me cry now," Barack Obama joked.
