Craig Melvin accidentally reveals Jenna Bush Hager secret on 'Today'

April 8, 2026, 10:59 a.m. ET

Gird your loins: Craig Melvin is spilling the beans.

On the April 8 episode of "Today," the anchor accidentally revealed some previously unannounced news about his colleague Jenna Bush Hager: She is apparently in "The Devil Wears Prada 2."

Melvin dropped the bombshell during a "Today" segment discussing recent news items about the highly anticipated sequel, including the new Vogue cover featuring Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour. While wrapping things up, Melvin casually asked, "By the way, you know how [I know] that movie's going to be good? You know how I can tell? JBH is in it."

The show then cut to Hager, a.k.a. JBH, whose jaw dropped in response to Melvin's comment. It was not previously known that Hager allegedly makes an appearance in the film.

Craig Melvin, left, accidentally revealed some casting news about his colleague Jenna Bush Hager on the "Today" show on April 8.

"I don't know that you were supposed to drop that bomb," a shocked Hager remarked, while Savannah Guthrie said playfully, "This is why you cannot tell Craig anything!" Melvin defended himself by saying he thought the casting "was common knowledge," but Guthrie simply shook her head and told him, "No."

"Cut it out for the other feeds!" Melvin quipped, adding, "Sorry about that, JBH."

"Why don't you read my journal, while you're at it?" Guthrie joked before Hager somewhat hurriedly tossed to a commercial break.

It wasn't immediately clear what role Hager has in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," though presumably it's a small cameo as herself, potentially during a scene set at the "Today" show.

Hager may have hinted at her "Devil Wears Prada 2" involvement last year: In October, she dressed up as Wintour for Halloween alongside Guthrie, who went as Streep's character Miranda Priestly.

Anne Hathaway returns as Andy Sachs in "The Devil Wears Prada 2," which also stars Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Newcomers to the sequel who weren't in the original movie include Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen and B.J. Novak. The film hits theaters on May 1.

The Melvin snafu was a lighthearted moment near the top of the April 8 episode of "Today," which has been moving ahead like usual this week following Guthrie's return on April 6.

She had been absent from the show for two months amid the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, in Arizona. The NBC show has largely not made Guthrie's return into a major focus in recent days, though on her first episode back, she emotionally greeted fans outside the studio and said it is "good to be home."
