Burger King is ramping up its workforce by hiring around 60,000 new employees this year.

On April 2, Burger King launched a nationwide hiring search to bring on up to 60,000 new employees, from entry-level positions to management, to its nearly 6,500 restaurants in the United States, according to a news release.

The search comes after a series of "brand milestones that have repositioned Burger King restaurants as a destination for both guests and employees," the news release states.

"We need great people to help us keep that momentum going – people who are passionate, hardworking, and genuinely friendly," Burger King President Tom Curtis said in a statement. "A warm welcome goes a long way, and the Team Members who bring that energy every day are at the heart of what makes the Burger King experience special. "

USA TODAY contacted Burger King for more information on how many in-store employees are hired each year, but has not received a response as of April 7.

How much does Burger King pay an hour?

According to Indeed, as of March 30, the average hourly salary for a Burger King team member in the United States is $13.76. Team members in Boston receive the highest hourly salary at $16.91, while those in Columbus, Ohio, are second at $14.87, according to the job site.

The average hourly salary for a manager at Burger King in the United States was $16.38, as of Feb. 27, according to Indeed. The highest-paying cities for Burger King managers were Chicago ($121,727 per year), Los Angeles ($120,269 per year) and Atlanta ($116,386 per year), the job site says.

Burger King recently revamped its Whopper

Notably, the burger chain revamped its iconic Whopper earlier this year, with a "more premium, better tasting bun," "better tasting mayo," all served in a "box to ensure it makes it to guests exactly the way it left the kitchen."

The changes, the first to the Whopper in a decade, came after Curtis invited customers to provide feedback about their experiences with the chain in February.
