Nearly 150K Generac generators sold at Lowe's, Home Depot recalled

April 21, 2026, 6:06 p.m. ET

Nearly 150,000 generators sold at stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s are being recalled for posing a deadly fire hazard.

According to an April 16 warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), 149,400 Generac-branded portable generators sold nationwide are at risk of leaking gasoline while being filled, creating a significant fire and burn risk.

Generac has received 114 reports of generator fuel leaks related to the products, none of which resulted in injury.

The generators were sold at Home Depot, Lowe's and other hardware stores across the United States from May 2025 through February 2026 for $600 to $1,300, according to CPSC.

Here's what to know about the recalled products.

Which generators were recalled?

Certain Generac Portable Generators with an orange/black cover are subject to the recall. The generators come encased in a steel-tube cradle with two wheels on the back and have “Generac” and the “unit type” printed on the side panels.

Generators that have previously been filled with enough gasoline to move the gauge off "E," or have been used without any gasoline leakage, can continue to be used, according to the CPSC notice.

Generac has recalled nearly 150k portable generators for fire and burn risks.

The recall covers the following unit types and model numbers:

  • Unit: GP3600, Model number: G0077210
  • Unit: GP4000DF, Model number: G0081550
  • Unit: GP6500, Model number: G0076802, G0076722

What to do if you have a recalled Generac generator

Consumers who own a recalled Generac generator should stop using the accompanying attachments immediately and visit the company's website to see if their item is part of the recall. If it is and has either not yet been filled with fuel or has leaked while being filled, consumers should contact their dealer or place of purchase for a free repair.
