National Nurses Week begins May 6, and restaurant chains across the country are offering freebies and discounts to show their appreciation.

After many chains rolled out deals for Cinco de Mayo and Teacher Appreciation Week, several are also offering promotions for National Nurses Week 2026.

The week aims to recognize the "invaluable contributions nurses make in healthcare and our lives while addressing the real-life challenges they face every day," according to the American Nurses Association website.

The organization, which encompasses the American Nurses Association, the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Nurses Foundation, aims to amplify nurses' voices across America to "drive change and ignite a new era in nursing."

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday.

"These permanent dates enhance planning and position National Nurses Week as an established recognition event," the group says on its website.

In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation designating May 6 as "National Recognition Day for Nurses."

Here's what to know about where nurses can get freebies and discounts.
