Starbucks coconut water drinks to be tested in more stores: See where
While lovers of Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte await its return, beverage connoisseurs in some U.S. cities can try the coffee chain's newest drinks – made with coconut water.
Last month, Starbucks began testing two drinks made with coconut water, Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew, as part of its Starting 5 product innovation program in five New York City coffeehouses. The availability of the drinks will now be expanded to more than 400 stores across the U.S.
The Coco Matcha drink is made with unsweetened creamy Matcha Cold Foam poured over coconut water on ice. Coco Cold Brew tops coconut water over ice with cold brew foam.
“With Coco Matcha, we wanted to create a drink that feels like a tropical escape in a cup. The vibrant, unsweetened matcha softens beautifully when blended into our creamy cold foam," said Starbucks beverage developer Patrick Penny in a statement to USA TODAY. “Coco Cold Brew is a refreshing twist on a classic flavor pairing – chocolate and coconut – with a modern, energizing feel."

Where can you get Starbucks new Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew drinks?

Starting Thursday, Aug. 21, Starbucks is making the new Coco Matcha and Coco Cold Brew drinks available in more locations in New York City and these other cities:
- Greater Los Angeles
- Chicago
- St. Louis
- Cedar Rapids, Iowa
- Springfield, Illinois
- South Bend, Indiana
- Milwaukee
- Madison, Wisconsin
During this test, Starbucks will get feedback from customers and employees, but the company offered no details on when the drinks could expand to more locations.
This fall, Starbucks also plans to bring to stores its protein cold foam option – like the coconut water-based drinks, as part of the chain's health and wellness initiative – an alternate topping that could add 15 grams of protein to a beverage.
When does Starbucks' fall menu come out?
Very soon. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 26, Starbucks once again begins serving its Pumpkin Spice Latte, along with the rest of its fall menu, which includes Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai and Pecan Crunch Oatmilk Latte.
