Kroger croutons recalled. How to check your bag
Julia GomezKroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons are being recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, according to an announcement from the croutons' makers, Sugar Foods LLC, posted on the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) website.
The potential contamination is linked to milk powder provided by California Dairies Inc., according to the announcement.
A notice about the powdered milk was issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on April 30, warning consumers of potential contamination, USA TODAY previously reported.
The croutons were not the only products affected by the California Dairies Inc. powdered milk. More items, including frozen pizzas sold at Aldi, Zapp's and Dirty-brand chips, several Ghirardelli Chocolate Company powdered beverages and more were recalled due to potential contamination from the powdered milk.
"Out of an abundance of caution, and because this milk powder was used in a seasoning ingredient supplied to Sugar Foods, the company is initiating this recall," the announcement stated. "Sugar Foods is recalling this product based on the ingredient supplier’s recall."
The recalled croutons were sold across 17 states in the U.S. and were distributed from March 7 to April 7.
