What is Mega Millions?

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Tickets cost $5, and players select five numbers from 1 to 70 (white balls) and one number from 1 to 24 (the gold Mega Ball), or choose a Quick Pick/Easy Pick, which randomly generates numbers.

To win the jackpot, a ticket must match all six numbers. If multiple players hit the jackpot, the prize is split.

How to play the Mega Millions

Tickets can be purchased at convenience stores, gas stations and grocery stores. Some states also allow online purchases.

Players choose five white balls (1–70) and one Mega Ball (1–24). Those who prefer not to pick their own numbers can opt for a Quick Pick, letting the computer choose randomly.

Mega Millions tickets include a built‑in multiplier, which increases non‑jackpot prizes.
