MAHA moms mad at SCOTUS Roundup ruling got burned by Trump | Opinion

The easily influenced influencers in the Make America Healthy Again crowd are livid that the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the maker of Roundup weedkiller, rejecting a lawsuit that claimed the herbicide causes cancer.

And they're feeling betrayed by the president they supported, Donald Trump, because he and his Department of Justice sided with Bayer, the company that bought out longtime Roundup-maker Monsanto.

MAHA influencer Alex Clark decried the court’s June 25 decision on social media: “For an administration that promised to take on corporate capture and Make America Healthy Again, this is a STUNNING betrayal.”

MAHA activist Alexandra Muñoz posted on Instagram: “The DOJ’s support of this case has betrayed the American people.” 

Vani Hari, a MAHA mom who blogs as “The Food Babe,” posted on X: “I am literally sick. This is a devastating blow to every family that trusted our justice system.”

MAHA put its faith in Trump. Roundup ruling shows how absurd that was.

I’m perpetually amazed by how many people put their faith in an aggresively dishonest con artist like Trump and then are shocked ‒ SHOCKED, I TELL YOU! ‒ when he turns around and does them wrong.

Trump has been screwing people over for decades, yet people still hear him telling them what they want to hear and think, “I’m sure we’ll be the first ones he doesn’t burn!”

I wish there were a vaccine for gullibility, but even if there were, I doubt the Robert-F.-Kennedy-Jr.-adoring MAHA folks would get one. 

Nobody lies to people like Trump does. MAHA should've known better.

A 2025 New York Times profile of Hari showed the wildly misguided trust she put in the president: “She said he fully supports changing the food system. ‘We never had a president talk about these issues like this before.’ ”

 How’s that working out these days?

Biden's administration opposed the Roundup appeal

Look, I’m not unsympathetic to the anger MAHA moms and others in the movement are feeling over the Supreme Court’s ruling. And as I’ve written before, while I loathe the movement’s frequent rejection of broadly accepted science, I believe most involved in it have good intentions.

But embracing a liar like Trump and a quack like RFK Jr. was a superb way for a health movement to discredit itself and wind up getting run over by the corporate greed it claims to abhor.

President Joe Biden's solicitor general asked the court in 2022 to reject Bayer’s appeal of the lawsuit.

Trump’s DOJ, on the other hand, filed an amicus brief in 2025 urging the high court to take up the appeal.

MAHA got played for suckers by ultimate con man Trump

Attorney Dani Replogle of the advocacy group Food & Water Watch issued this statement in response:

“The Trump Administration’s filing encourages the Supreme Court to slam the judiciary doors in the faces of cancer patients across the country. No political posturing can undo the clear message this brief sends to sick Americans harmed by toxic pesticides: Trump has Bayer’s back, not theirs. Monsanto/Bayer’s push to silence cancer patients and keep the sick from pursuing justice is cruel ‒ and Trump’s support is even more despicable.”

That’s certainly not what MAHA folks thought they were getting when they sided with our tell-them-what-they-want-to-hear huckster of a president. But it’s exactly what anyone who has ever paid attention to Trump knew would happen.

Sorry, MAHA members and influencers. You got influenced.

And it’s hard to take you all seriously when you’re such easy marks.
