In the world of auto racing, drinking milk after winning the Indy 500 has become one of the most-beloved racing traditions.

However, not all milks are created equal in the eyes of drivers. Prior to the big race, each competitor must submit their preferred type of milk — whole, skim or 2% — to be devoured if they win.

It's exactly the kind of prize a driver, who just endured 200 laps of grueling burnt rubber, deserves after crossing those historic bricks. So, which style of milk is most favored by the Indy 500 crowd? Historically, whole milk has been the overwhelming favorite. Could 2026 be the year skim or 2% takes the crown?

Here is what drivers pre-selected ahead of Sunday's race:

What milk did drivers select for the 2026 Indy 500?

Of the 33 drivers competing in Sunday's race, 25 chose whole milk. Seven chose 2%, and only one of them opted for skim milk.

While that does seem like a steep win for whole milk, it's actually a step down from the percentage we saw a year ago. In 2025, 29 of the 33 drivers opted for whole milk with only Hélio Castroneves, Conor Daly, Graham Rahal and Alexander Rossi choosing 2%. Zero drivers chose skim.

Interestingly enough, both Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly opted to return to whole milk this year.
