See Will Ferrell surprise World Cup watch party with appearance
Will Ferrell made a surprise appearance at a June 19 watch party for the World Cup knockout stage match between the United States and Australia.
The "Anchorman" star sauntered into a watch party in New York City wearing a golf visor and golf shirt — the guise of the lead character, Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, in his upcoming Netflix show "The Hawk." In the comedy series, which hits the streaming service on July 16, Ferrell plays a golf legend who chases sports immortality by winning the career Grand Slam.
A viral fan video shows Ferrell making his way through the bar and eventually leading revelers in cheers of "Hawk! Hawk! Hawk!"

A well-known soccer fan, Ferrell became a minority shareholder in Leeds United, which plays in the Premier League, ESPN reported in 2024. He is also a longtime part-owner of Major League Soccer club LAFC.
The Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee also named Ferrell a community ambassador for the event, along with celebrities Snoop Dogg and Eva Longoria, and athletes Magic Johnson, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Cobi Jones, and Luka Dončić.
Will Ferrell is a pro golfer in twilight of career in 'The Hawk'
Ferrell's character "The Hawk," is a former World No. 1 now-washed-up golfer seeking a comeback at the same time his son, Lance (Jimmy Tatro), is being hailed as the tour's new standard-bearer. Molly Shannon plays Hawkins' wife, Stacy.
Ferrell is making appearances as part of "The Hawk" bus tour on the East Coast ahead of the series' debut and was in The Hamptons during the recent U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York.
