Panama vs England World Cup prediction, picks, analysis

Its a rematch of a 2018 World Cup group match when England and Panama meet on the final day of Group L play. Panama will hope this match goes better than that one, which England won 6-1, thrashing the World Cup debutants.

While this Panama group is savvier - though not older and wiser, having relied on a crew of veterans to get to the 2018 tournament - it still has not been able to score a first-ever World Cup point in this tournament, conceding late to Ghana in a 1-0 defeat and failing to Croatia by the same scoreline despite a feistier performance.

To have any shot against the Three Lions, Panama may need a fit Adalberto Coco Carrasquilla, who missed the first two matches with an injury suffered during the final club match of the season with Pumas, and will certainly need someone to finish off chances more effectively than it has so far in this competition.

Of course, England is not coming off a win, either, having to settle for a draw against a Ghana team that sat back and defended for much of the game. After a double in a 4-2 tournament opener against Croatia, Harry Kane missed the best opportunity of the match. But a group victory remains possible for England if it is able to find its form against a Panama team that is unlikely to try to soak up as much pressure as Ghana did.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has been bringing Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka off the bench but may be tempted to bring at least one of those attackers into the starting XI to give the team a jolt after the frustration of the scoreless draw.

Panama vs England predictions

Seth Vertelney: Panama 0-3 England

Panama's attack doesn't look like much of a threat so the question is more how many England can score. After a frustrating result against Ghana, it should be at least a couple.

Jon Arnold: Panama 0-2 England

Panama won't bring the same style as Ghana, but their defense will hang tougher than it did eight years ago. The lack of a finisher, however, means they'll get shut out and concede a couple.

Jesse Yomtov: Panama 0 - 5 England

If England can't drop at least three on Panama, yes there's cause for concern.

Victoria Hernandez: Panama 0 - 4 England

England is fuming after a terrible performance in a draw against Ghana. Expect Harry Kane to make up for it here.
