A modern-day Paul Revere midnight ride. That's what some social media users are comparing to the news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement.

The legendary singer and NFL tight end announced their engagement after two years of dating in an Instagram post on Aug. 26.

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," the caption on the joint post reads.

The internet promptly erupted in celebration, with some fans saying the news has renewed their own hopes of finding love.

Swifties react to Taylor and Travis' engagement

Phrases like "Travis" and "Taylor is engaged" quickly started trending on X shortly after the news broke.

"It’s a love story, baby, she SAID YES," Taylor Nation, an account run by Swift's team, posted on X.

Some fans celebrated Swift's engagement after years of singing about love stories.

"Big day for girls who believe in love," one fan wrote on X.

Others said they are celebrating the news as if its their own engagement or wedding announcement.

Many people compared the announcement to that of Paul Revere's midnight ride in 1775 at the start of the Revolutionary War.

Meanwhile, some fans cautioned about celebrating the news as if they are personal friends with Swift, also known as a parasocial relationship.

Some Swifties bemoaned the thought of working after finding out about Swift and Kelce's engagement.

Some users reflected on Swift and Kelce's relationship, especially as the NFL player was a fan of the singer before they started dating.
