Whole Foods expanding Daily Shop stores to these 3 major cities

Whole Foods Market is expanding its smaller-format grocery concept, Daily Shop, into three new major U.S. cities.

The company said in a Wednesday, May 13 news release that it plans to open new Daily Shop locations in Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia over the next two years. The stores are designed for dense neighborhoods where space is limited, but demand for quick access to fresh food remains high.

Executives described the format as a more focused version of a traditional Whole Foods Market, with an emphasis on speed and convenience without changing the brand’s core standards. The stores will feature curated selections of produce, meat, seafood, prepared foods, bakery items and select 365 by Whole Foods Market products.

“These stores are designed with intention at every level, from layout to assortment,” Stephanie Curley, senior manager of growth & innovation at Whole Foods Market and Amazon, said in a statement. The company said the design is meant to simplify shopping decisions while still offering the variety customers expect.

As of May 14, Whole Foods has eight Daily Shop locations in the New York City metro, Arlington, Virginia and London, with additional locations planned to open in London and the New York City area later this year, according to the grocery chain.

Store locations and rollout plan

The leases for the three upcoming stores have already been signed. In Boston, the location will be at 111 Harbor Way in the Seaport district. In Chicago, the store is planned for 1200 N Ashland in Wicker Park. In Philadelphia, the site will be at 2221-2225 South Street. Opening dates have not yet been announced.

Company leaders said the expansion reflects growing demand for smaller, more flexible grocery footprints in urban areas. Christina Minardi, vice president of real estate and store development at Whole Foods, said the format helps deliver the grocery chain's product standards in a way that better fits everyday shopping patterns.

What shoppers can expect

Daily Shop stores are built around streamlined layouts and merchandising strategies intended to make trips faster and more intuitive, the company noted. Product placement is designed to highlight high-demand items and reduce time spent navigating aisles.

Each store will also emphasize local and regional suppliers alongside national offerings. The goal is to reflect the surrounding neighborhoods while maintaining a consistent core assortment across all locations.

The company launched the Daily Shop concept in New York City in 2024 and has since expanded it to additional markets in the United States and the United Kingdom. Whole Foods said customer response has driven the continued rollout of the smaller format, with more locations planned in the coming years.
