Spam has unveiled a new product perfect for the dog days of summer.

The canned meat brand is now making hot dogs, it announced on its website.

The company described the Spam dog as a "reimagination of the classic hot dog" bringing the Spam flavor to a new format.

"One of the most exciting convenience food innovations in years, the SPAM Dog brings together two American culinary icons in one bold, unexpected bite," Spam wrote on its website.

The Spam dog will officially debut at the National Restaurant Association Show, which is being held from May 16-19 in Chicago this year.

Where to get a Spam dog

Although Spam is known for its canned meat, the brand said it is stepping away from the tin for its new hot dogs.

The Spam dog won't be available on store shelves, at least for now. Spam said the hot dogs are designed for foodservice operators including restaurants, convenience stores and stadiums.

Currently, fans can try a Spam dog at the following locations around the country:

  • Rutter's convenience stores in the Northeast
  • CHS Field in St. Paul, Minnesota
  • Select ABC and 7-Eleven stores in Hawaii

The company said it plans to roll out the Spam dog to additional locations and vendors throughout the summer.
