Giddy up.
After five seasons of "Yellowstone," two Dutton family prequels and a "Marshals" spinoff series, Taylor Sheridan's cowboy franchise moves from Montana to the Lone Star State with the new show "Dutton Ranch." And with the return of Kelly Reilly's Beth and Cole Hauser's Rip, things are about to get spicier than a dab of Texas Pete. That's one to put on the list to see, alongside a heartfelt Netflix documentary about iconic comedian Martin Short and the buzzy horror movie "Obsession." (Love story goes wrong in the most gory and eerie ways imaginable? Yes, please!)
Now on to the good stuff:
See Beth and Rip take on Texas in 'Yellowstone' spinoff 'Dutton Ranch'
What happens when you give the two most combustible elements of "Yellowstone" their own show? That's "Dutton Ranch" (first two episodes streaming on Paramount+), which centers on fiery Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her stoic love Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). A destructive fire finds them having to move to Texas, where they run into snakes, the heat and Annette Bening (as a rival ranch owner). Our resident "Yellowstone" reporter Bryan Alexander chatted with Reilly and Hauser about new foes, fresh obstacles and a big move. "We had to pluck these characters off a world they knew into a new one to start again and grow them in a different direction," Reilly says.
In addition, my pal Ralphie Aversa attended the NYC premiere of the show, chatting up Hauser about being recognized in public and Bening about filming on location in Texas.
Stream the Martin Short Netflix documentary 'Marty, Life Is Short'
Lawrence Kasdan's documentary "Marty, Life Is Short" (streaming now on Netflix) chronicles the life and comedy of Martin Short, the funnyman who got his early start on "SCTV" and "SNL," then broke out later in life (and won an Emmy) as a key player in "Only Murders in the Building." The doc digs into Short's filmography and treasure chest of zany characters (Ed Grimley!) but also how he navigated personal tragedies through the years. In a chat with my colleague Erin Jensen, Kasdan acknowledges Short's resilience is his most admirable quality. “That's really the subtext of the whole movie … how do we recover when things go bad?" the filmmaker says.
The Short documentary is one of many fresh flicks on streaming this week. Here's a roundup of what to watch, from the animated hoops comedy "GOAT" to the Daisy Ridley zombie drama "We Bury the Dead."

Find your next horror 'Obsession' with Curry Barker chiller

It's a well-told story: Dude finally gets the girl of his dreams and things don't go as planned. But the new horror movie "Obsession" takes that familiar tale, adds in a little "monkey's paw" wish fulfillment and finds some ghastly results. Up-and-coming filmmaker Curry Barker directs the bad romance, with Michael Johnston as the awkward dude and standout Inde Navarrette as his truly unsettling lover, and he tells me that "Obsession" falls squarely in line with the movies he wants to make. (On the way: a new "Texas Chainsaw Massacre.")
“My sensibilities are putting ordinary people in extraordinary situations, and pushing them past the boundaries of their comfort level,” says the Alabama native. “I gravitate toward stories that ask the audience, what would you do in this situation?”
