Trader Joe's ditches pastels for stripes with upcoming mini tote launch

April 28, 2026Updated April 30, 2026, 2:06 p.m. ET

Trader Joe's is waving goodbye to pastels and saying hello to stripes.

The Monrovia, California-based specialty grocery chain confirmed to the Reno Gazette Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, that new striped mini canvas tote bags are on the way.

According to the Journal, unofficial mock-up photos of the mini totes started popping up online a few weeks ago, leading to increased customer calls at some Trader Joe’s stores.

"Trader Joe’s has plans to offer a new striped mini canvas tote this summer," Nakia Rohde, a Trader Joe's spokesperson, said in a statement. "We do not yet have images or a precise timeline to share."

Trader Joe's adding new tote to iconic lineup

From "Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes" to "Micro Totes," the upcoming "Striped Mini Canvas Totes" are the latest entry in Trader Joe's ever‑expanding lineup of collectible bags.

A lavender version of the $8.99 reusable insulated bag recently debuted in stores. The chain brought back the pastel mini canvas tote bags last month and launched a new large canvas bag.

The compact totes have developed a cult‑like following among the store's customers and the fashion-conscious. The bags first went viral in March 2024, becoming so popular on social media that procuring one has become increasingly difficult.

Trader Joe's totes have also found fans abroad, with bags listed on international marketplaces, including Coupang, Depop, and Karrot, as well as eBay and Mercari.

With no Trader Joe's stores abroad, resale prices listed by U.S. shoppers are often dramatically higher than in‑store prices, sometimes exceeding $1,000.

Despite Black Friday–style lines, limited quantities, and resellers charging exorbitant prices, the tote has become a must‑have staple, with fans lining up for each new release.

And if past drops are any guide, the striped mini totes won’t last long once they hit shelves.
